Coast of brown bears

«Brown Bears Shore» - is an absolutely wild part of the Baikal, stretching a couple of hundreds kilometers to the north from Maloye Morye. There are no roads, no settlements.

Берег Бурых Медведей.

1. Rytiy

A dive boat is anchored in the offshore area to the south of Cape Rytiy. A steep stone inclination covered in sponges. Bullheads, Lake Baikal shrimps.

2. Pokoyniky

Dives from a drifting boat to the south of Cape Pokoyniky. A stone benchy inclination covered in sponges. Lots of sunken trees. Huge sponges, bullheads, Lake Baikal shrimps.

POKOINIKI

3. Raduga/The Rainbow (To the north from Northern Kedroviy/Cedar)

The dive site name came to our mind because we often saw really many rainbows in the area. Do you agree this sounds better than «to the north from Northern Kedroviy/Cedar»?

A dive boat is anchored in a small offshore area (depth - 6-10 meters) to the north from Cape Northern Kedroviy. A steep benchy stone drop off covered in very high sponges. To the left and to the right from the drop off - sand inclinations. To the north - a sand inclination with huge stones covered in sponges. A picturesque offshore area of white sand and huge stones, covered in sponges.

Bullheads, Lake Baikal shrimps.

4. Ledyanaya 2

A dive boat is anchored in a small offshore area (depth - 6-10 meters). A benchy drop off covered in sponges. At the depth of 65 meters it turns into a steep inclination. In the northern part of this dive site there is a very smooth canyon, beginning from the offshore area and finishing at the depth of 30 meters.

5. Ledyanaya

A place worth several dives.

The offshore area is very shallow and narrow, so dives are made from a drifting boat or, on the condition of calm weather, a dive boat is tied to the shore to the south from the River Ledyanaya, where there is no offshore area at all and the drop off goes into the abyss right from the shore. To the north from where the boat is tied begins an absolutely vertical and smooth drop off. Despite this fact the wall is covered in sponges, which grow in abandunce on the vertical surface. The drop off begins at the depth of 3-5 meters and runs parallel to the stone inclination with a gradual increase of the depth. In the central part of the dive site, where the horse-shoe-shaped wall goes into the Baikal its depth reaches the point of 120 meters - this is one of the longest and absolutely vertical walls in the Baikal. The wall finishes with a steep inclination that runs further down. In the northern part of the dive site the drop off depth gradually reduces and the upper edge of it goes deeper, i.e. there is a shallow offshore area (2,5 meters, that’s why a ship can not get into this area), then begins an inclination, which turns into a wall at the depth of 20 meters or 30-35 meters (further north).

An ideal place for deep diving. There were made dives to the depth of 130 meters (Tatiana Oparina, 2012).

6. Peschanaya Rechka (The Sand River)

Here the offshore area is 8-10 meters deep on the edge of the drop off. The center of the dive site is a picturesque sand canyon running to the depth, like a sand river. This is why we gave the site this name. To the left and to the right from the canyon there is a picturesque steep benchy stone inclination.

7. Khibelin

A small sand-and-stone offshore area turns into a steep sand-and-stone inclination with big benches and stones. Scarce sponge colonies. Bullheads.

8. Kotelnikovskiy

A dive boat is tied to the shore to the south from Cape Kotelnikovskiy. A pebble corridor of a 40-45 degree angle at the depth of 30 meters turns into a canyon. Maximum depth of the canyon is still to be explored. Bullheads.

9. Tolstiy Severobaikalskiy

Dives from a drifting dive boat. Not a steep drop off with benches and huge stones. Scarce colonies of sponges. Bullheads.
