In the beginning of the summer 2010

In the beginning of the summer 2010 24.07.2010

In the beginning of the summer we had a small unusual safari with interesting prospects. It was small, because it was mini, but it had lots of unusual features never the less. First of all, there were only four us on “Valeriya”. Konstantin (from Bryansk) kept joking that it seems like we’re on a floating hotel with a restaurant service. Boat’s team always provides great service, but when it’s done only for four people, then it seem like you’re on “Aggressor”. Secondly, we got really lucky with the weather; it was possible to dive anywhere and as much as we wanted. Thirdly, we didn’t use any of the usual routes, but dove where previously nobody saw anything interesting, so in places that needed some further exploring. The experience of all participants allowed for some serious technical diving.

In the end of June we finished a course for a group of freedivers. There will be an advanced freediving course concentrated on deep diving on Baikal. It will start as soon as the water gets warmer.
In the beginning of June we also held traditional diving camp on Maloe More. We dove in the gulf of Olkhonskie Vorota (Olkhon Gates) and stayed at Instructor and Trainerthe hostel called “Veter Stranstvij” (“Wind of Wanderings”)

In the first half of July there was instructor IDC IANTD course led by instructor-trainer IANTD Gennady Misan. Now the Gulf of Finland has another IANTD instructor, which makes for the total of three instructors in that area trained by BaikalTek – 2 in Estonia and now 1 in Finland. Jarkko Tuomninen is now Advanced EANx Instructor IANTD. You can come to Helsinki for both recreational and technical diving. Jarkko will organize high-quality courses and great diving to Baltic’s sunken ships and at famous cave Ojamo.
Jarkko Tuominen not only successfully completed the instructor courses, but also actively practiced technical diving. He made several dives at 50, 60, 70, 90, 100 and 110 meters. He dove here through entire June and July. He also made lots of technical dives in the summer of 2009, when he completed a course on trimix, daily diving and participated in diving safari.

In the near future we expect to have a week of pure technical diving, divers from Kemerovo and Krasnoyarsk already decided to participate. We will also have safari to Bolshie Koty, advanced trimix courses, safari “Around Alkhon & Ushkanii Isles”, and of course daily diving in Listvyanka. So, stay posted. The summer is continuing..!

One can quickly lose the skills. The habit to dive from a boat makes you relax. During the last three years, we haven’t had any deep trimix in Listvyanka. Time to catch up! (Gennadi’s comment: “That’s true. All the deep dives in the last three years were made from the safari boats”). And now, it is December again, the freest time to dive “for yourself”. Be it Covid or not, there is a lot of work in summer, as usual. So, the intensive preparation has begun! (Gennadi’s comment: “The idea is to dive VERY deep!”)

The two weeklong “coronavirus” diving safaris in June were technical ones. So, technical diving is always there. BaikalTek is a technical dive center, with Trimix facility TDI & IANTD. However, it does not mean that there is no place for recreation, photography, filming and other kinds of divers. The other way round: we pay attention to everyone’s need and interests, and are ready to accompany you in your diving any time.

The BaikalTek instructors often meet the seals under the ice because they dive often.  A ‘normal’ diver is rarely so lucky. Jean from Switzerland is one of the lucky guys. Though it was his first Olkhon Ice Safari at Lake Baikal, he saw a lot: huge ice shapes, moving ice mass, dancing planaria… and finally, a seal!
